About us

The Directorate General for Development and Cooperation (DGDC) under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation defines the operational strategy of actions to be carried out by the Italian Cooperation active in Sudan through the Local Technical Unit (LTU) in Khartoum.

The LTU, under supervision of the Embassy of Italy, coordinates and monitors all projects and programs in-country, either funded by the DGDC or by the European Union via delegated cooperation.

Over time the Italian Cooperation – the only European agency directly working in the field in Eastern Sudan – has built strong relationship with communities living in these states. Italian and Sudanese staff works closely with local authorities and communities to foster development and respond to emergencies.
Our main sectors of intervention are health, education, rural development and humanitarian aid, with the aim of assisting the most vulnerable population in the most remote areas.

The excellent results achieved through the Italian Cooperation’s bilateral programs in Eastern Sudan, especially in the health sector, are the main reason for the decision of the European Union to appoint Italy as the “implementing partner” for the E.U. program (2014-2016) for the rehabilitation of the health sector in Eastern Sudan.
