A joint effort of AICS and UN Women, funded through the European Union Emergency Trust Fund for Africa, aims to support the democratic transition of Sudan by empowering vulnerable women in Khartoum, Kassala, Gedaref and the Red Sea States. In particular, the project supports the development of microfinance, the strengthening of women’s entrepreneurial skills and the promotion of positive social norms and cultural change.

WE-RISE! project contributes to increasing access to more inclusive financial mechanisms, improving women’s entrepreneurial capacity in the context of value chain transformation, and the objective of increasing productivity, income, and gender equality. It also aims to address barriers to women’s economic empowerment (WEEE), including combating gender-based violence and promoting positive social norms. Academic institutions, civil society organizations, trade unions, and chambers of commerce in the specified regions are key partners, emphasizing collective action with local NGOs, civil society organizations, and women’s associations. A Project Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) provides crucial input and support to the project, including relevant experts from local communities, civil society organizations, academic institutions, and representatives from AICS, UN Women, and the EU.
