Background
The Italian Development Cooperation will implement the EU program “Improve the Health Status of vulnerable populations in Eastern Sudan – IHSVP” in Red Sea, Kassala and Gedaref States with a budget of 4,5 M Euros. The new intervention will be managed in a fully integrated way with the EU initiative Promoting Qualitative Health Services in Eastern Sudan (8.6 M Euros) currently carried out in the same States by Italian Cooperation.
Objectives
General Objective: Contribute to the improvement of living conditions of vulnerable people in the States of Red Sea, Kassala and Gedaref.
Specific Objective: Strengthen and enhance coverage, quality and availability of primary health care services.
Improve basic and emergency services in rural hospitals, with focus on referral systems and Emergency Obstetric Care (EmOC).
Increase access to safe and potable water sources, environmental sanitation and hygiene facilities.
Expected outputs and activities
• Support to Community Health Workers and Community Midwives in providing Basic Health Service Package.
• Improvement of the quality of basic and emergency services provided in selected rural hospitals.
• Review and implementation of a system for emergency care and EmOC at the locality and at State levels.
• Technical supervision of services provided in the selected FHCs (Family Health Centers).
• Awareness on Maternal Child Health harming attitudes and practices (focus on Female Genital Mutilation) at community level.
• Rehabilitation/construction of water sources and facilities.
