Since February 2019, INTERSOS carries out the project "Protection of children and women in the Far North of Cameroon", funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation. The initiative aims to improve the living conditions of displaced populations in the Far North region of Cameroon through prevention and response activities against gender-based violence and abuses against children. The intervention sites are 9 villages in the three departments of Logone et Chari, Mayo Sava and Mayo Tsanaga.
On the 2nd and 3rd of May, training sessions were held for community agents and local authorities in the three departments. The main objective of these sessions was to strengthen the participants' knowledge on the rights of children and women, on the elements that favor gender-based violence, on the consequences that this type of violence can have on the lives of the victims and on the elements and factors of prevention. A training module was also held to illustrate the attitudes to be adopted in the event of abuses against children.
The training was the occasion to present in detail the activities of the project to the authorities and to the community agents, which is particularly important for the acceptance of the intervention by the local host communities.
