Following the military escalation in Tigray, Ethiopia, UNHCR - the UN Refugee Agency - recorded more than 31,353 arrivals to Sudan, of which 19,997 from Hamdayet and 10,356 from Lugdi, in Eastern Sudan. After a first screening, refugees are moved to the reception centres of Village 8 (Kassala State) and Um Raquba (Gedaref State) refugee camps. However, the capacity of these camps is limited, especially in view of addition arrivals from Ethiopia expected in the coming months.
AICS Khartoum is mobilising to support the refugees in Hamdayet with WaSH, health and emergency interventions. The CSO COOPI has already redirected part of the funds of an AICS-funded projects to provide the Hamdayet camp 5 water tankers.
