First helpline for case management of gender-based violence now active in Sudan

COVID19 has led to an increase in gender-based violence (GBV) across the world and evidence suggests that domestic violence and other forms of GBV are more prevalent during crisis, especially in the case of limitation of movement where direct service delivery for GBV survivors maybe affected. The Combating Violence Against Women (CVAW) Unit of the Ministry of Labor and Social Development in partnership with AICS and with the technical support of UNFPA established a gender-based violence (GBV) Helpline for Case Management, a clear mechanism to facilitate access for survivors of GBV to phone-based health, security and legal services, including referrals and tele-counseling. The social workers that will answer the calls have direct access to state focal points for referral to available services for case-management at state-level.

This call center will provide women a free and safe space and necessary support. A great achievement!
