On June 29th, 2018 at the Complexe Pediatrrique of Bangui (CPB) there was a ceremony for transfer of activities between the NGO Emergency and CUAMM, which from July 1st will perform the technical work in the Hospital of one of the poorest countries in the world, where the war of recent years has caused thousands of deaths and about 1,2 million refugees and IDPs. Part of the Emergency team will continue to operate in the pediatric clinic now dedicated to the treatment of chronic diseases (active since 2009) and in support of the National Center of Transfusion (CNTS).
The ceremony saw the participation of S.E. the Minister of Health and the Population Mr. Pierre Somse, the Deputy Director of the Field Operations Department of Emergency Emanuele Nannini, the Director of the European Cooperation Paolo Curradi and the Director of AICS Khartoum Vincenzo Racalbuto. It was noted that the success of the operation is the result of a partnership that has seen the contribution ofthe Italian Cooperation, the European Commission, the United Nations, ACF (Action contre la Faim) and private funds of Emergency, managing to ensure the complete gratuity of the care in these years.
Italy has always been at the forefront in supporting the health sector in CAR and continues to do so thanks to interventions aimed at strengthening the national health system, to improve access to health, train qualified personnel, provide specialized and quality care. The Director of European Cooperation affirmed that from 2014 to date, the funds allocated to the health sector in CAR have reached the quota of 90 million Euros and were disbursed through the FED (European Development Fund), the Trust Fund Bekou and ECHO (European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operation).
