Menstrual hygiene is a right to be preserved always, also in emergency responses. However, it is too often a source of discrimination and stigma. In many countries, sanitary pads are still considered a luxury product, thus generating inequalities and causing the use of inadequate menstrual materials.
That's why the CSO Incontro fra i Popoli, in collaboration with the Cameroonian partner ACEEN, has been promoting the production of reusable menstrual pads since February 2019 through the emergency project AID 11226 funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation. The production of the pads is easy, low-cost, eco-friendly and thus sustainable and contributes to improving menstrual hygiene, while being a good opportunity for vulnerable women to start an income generating activity.
